My Favorite Links

Gregory had been setting up and composing our neighborhood web site as a service to our community.  Take a look at where we live. Amberleigh of Kingstowne, Virginia, USA.

My Job

My current employer is VistaRMS contracting through Dyncorp/CSC to the U.S. EPA.  I provide IT support through a Managed Desktop environment using Novell’s ZEN Works.  I work in the nation’s capital, downtown Washington D.C.

 Miscellaneous / Fun Links

In my spare time I try to dedicate some time coaching youth soccer at Burke Athletic Club. I teach my own children soccer and baseball as well.

I love watching NASCAR on TV.  My favorite driver is Tony Stewart

I also enjoy going to the local track at Old Dominion Speedway and watching the weekend warriors race the short track under the lights.

One of the things I enjoy doing the most is watching my favorite team, the Atlanta Braves with my daughter Caroline and keeping score.  My favorite player is Chipper Jones, although Rafael Furcal, Andruw Jones, Gary Sheffield, Marcus Giles and Javy Lopez are fun to watch as well.

One vacation spot I’d like to revisit is  Outer Banks, NC.  This is a nice quiet beach resort that’s family friendly and not to built up and flashy.

My son Charles and I both like lighthouses.  Here are a couple of links to some lighthouse sites:  Lighthouse getaway The Outer Banks Lighthouse Society

Chip made a bird house and has been calling it a lighthouse ever since.

My friend Jamie Winkler does some caricatures and other artistry work.

 Commuting

Commuting is the biggest concern in this area.

The Washington DC metro area has the second worst traffic congestion in the country.    (Were number 2 !!)  Our area fluctuates every year, in the top five metro areas of the country for worst traffic.

I’ve found that the best way to get downtown is to SLUG.  I'm a Slug - This is how I commute.  I leave from the old Circuit City in Springfield and go to 14th & G Street and return to Bob's.

 Slug Virginia  Slug site.

The Slug Line   Another slug line site.

Pentagon Building Services  Official bulletins on getting into and around the Pentagon including info on Slug Lines.

VRE Virginia Railway Express - The commuter train (Amtrak) - A good back up system.

METRO Washington Metro Area Transient Authority - The subway - A good back up system.  Sometimes this is the primary means of transportation.

Education

 Some nice local universities

I have been taking some classes at Northern Virginia Community College off and on, (mostly off).  My courses are around INFORMATION SYSTEMS TECHNOLOGY

My favorite course is ADJ 127 (description).  This class is no longer taught as it is not politically correct.  That’s too bad for our law-abiding citizens.  This has got to be
one of the best firearms training classes I’ve found.  This gives the student an understanding of safe handling and operation of various firearms and the legal and moral
responsibilities pertaining to them.  Upon completion, the student would receive three (3) widely recognized certifications.  I believe all firearms owners AND those
interested in handling firearms (just going to the range every now and then), should attend a class like this.  It’s too bad our driver’s license requirements aren’t this
detailed.

George Mason University  the very local college, right here in Fairfax.

 U.S. Naval Academy

 Virginia Tech

Our Local Papers

The Washington Post the liberal rag (but probably the best on-line paper out there)

The Washington Times the conservative press

Political news fair and balanced from The O'Reilly Factor with Bill O'Reilly on FOXNEWS.

Political news, fair, but not so balanced... Rush Limbaugh but fun to listen to and debate.
